People behind popular Toronto fried chicken chain just opened something entirely new

The husband-wife team behind a now-defunct Toronto fried chicken restaurant just opened a brand-new concept, and, even though it couldn't be more different than their last venture, it looks cluckin' delicious.

Fans of all things fried, battered and saucy caught a swift blow in July 2026 when, after a decade of serving high-piled, food envy-inducing fried chicken sandwiches, Pawel and Steph Grezlikowski announced they'd be closing their beloved chicken shop, PG Clucks, later that month.

Since 2016, PG Clucks had built up a reputation for serving some of the city's favourite chicken sandwiches in Little Italy and, later, on Queen West, before Steph and Pawel pulled the plug, citing their unwillingness to boost their prices amid soaring overheads.

This chicken shop may have gone the way of the Dodo, but the Grezlikowskis are now back in business, this time with a Little Italy pita bakery and Mediterranean restaurant called Loomi Pita Bakery.

Taking over PG Clucks' former College Street location, Loomi touts itself as the "world's smallest pita bakery" and, operating out of an itsy-bitsy 200 sq. ft. kitchen, the new restaurant may have a valid claim to the title.

Soft-opening on Thursday, Oct. 1, Loomi serves up an impressive selection of proteins, like chicken schnitzel and braised lamb, on fresh-baked pita with an equally delectable lineup of dips, pickles and seasonal ferments.

A far cry from the cholesterol-laden (and I say that with love) offerings at Clucks, Loomi's offerings are decidedly fresh and satisfying — but only time will tell whether they prove to be as popular as their fried chicken forebears.

Loomi Pita Bakery is located at 610 College St.
