Brain and tongue sandwiches among the offerings at this new Ontario restaurant

A new Toronto sandwich shop is eschewing the requisite Italian cold cuts and Vietnamese pickles in favour of more exotic toppings, like brain and tongue.

No, it's not an early Halloween menu special designed to make your skin crawl. At Sandwich Therapy, a new Persian sandwich shop in Richmond Hill, brains and tongue really are offered as sandwich fillings, and they've become some of the shop's most popular offerings since it opened in July 2026.

Diners can pick up the brain, tongue and mushroom sandwich, which comes dressed in the restaurant's signature sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion with a side of chips for a somewhat staggering $25, or opt to omit the grey matter and go for straight-up tongue and mushroom for $24.

Before you go turning up your nose because brains and tongue don't often find their way on Toronto menus, the combination isn't actually as out-there as it may seem to some diners.

In Iran, the brain and tongue sandwich, called Maghz va Zaban, is a super popular street food sandwich, akin to a hot dog or Philly cheesesteak. And if you eat hot dogs without getting squeamish, you should have no trouble with the beef brain and tongue sandwich.

That said, the menu at Sandwich Therapy isn't only made up of clappers and cerebrums. Other Persian favourites like sosis bandari, a tomatoey, spicy, stewy sausage filling; olivieh salad; and even Indian tandoori beef can all be found between two buns at the restaurant.

So, whether you grew up on brains and tongue sandwiches, are looking to get out of your comfort zone and try something new, or would rather stick to the cold cuts, Sandwich Therapy might just be your place.

Sandwich Therapy is located at 10087 Yonge St. in Richmond Hill.
