Bar and restaurant patios in Toronto are the ideal spots to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but choosing the right patio is a whole other issue.
If you haven't already heard, it may be time to get your ears cleaned: the FIFA World Cup is coming to Toronto this month and, suffice it to say, soccer fans in the city are amped.
With six games and 10 teams slated to play matches at BMO Field — renamed Toronto Stadium for the occasion — from June 12 to July 2, football fever has gripped Toronto (and, I'm sure, all of our fellow host cities across North America).
If you've started to get wrapped up in all the buzz but aren't willing to drop a small fortune on tickets, tuning in at a patio with an outdoor screen is the next best thing, and, lucky for soccer fans, Toronto's got some great options.
Here are 7 patios where you can watch FIFA al fresco this month.
It doesn't get much more epic than this enormous patio just off Queen West. Packed with picnic tables, a huge projection screen and, just for the occasion, a turf soccer field, the appeal of this spot extends long after the winner has been crowned.
If you're in the market for a bar with heritage, look no further than this Little Italy stalwart. A neighbourhood staple for 60 years, this spot is the city's soccer mecca. Boasting a spacious patio and rowdy, passionate atmosphere, a rip at the Dip is the closest you'll get to the crowd at an actual soccer match without having to buy a ticket.
For a little extra dose of Toronto pride, head to this iconic patio sitting in the (metaphorical, luckily) shadow of the CN Tower. During the World Cup, they'll have a large projection screen set up to show all the matches, so you can get an unobstructed view under the sun.
While TV screens are in better supply inside this Queen West sports bar, the outdoor patio does have one screen that, you best believe, will be playing the big games. Bonus points for its larger-than-life Caesars, which will no doubt serve well during morning games.
Proceed north of Queen East in Leslieville, and you'll stumble upon this hidden gem at Coxwell and Dundas. The sprawling corner patio is supplemented with a series of TV screens, communal seating and a comradic atmosphere that'll make you feel right at home, even if you don't know which team you're cheering for.
This longstanding, multi-storey Yorkville pub is nothing short of a legend, not unlike the literary juggernaut it was named for. Head to the top floor and you'll find yourself on the bar's covered rooftop patio, which boasts just the sort of no-frills, easygoing atmosphere one yearns for when it comes time to watch a sports game.
Another Yorkville staple with a to-die-for rooftop setup, this bar has been in the local mix for more than 80 years. If you want to go somewhere that's been vetted, why not opt for a bar that's been vetted by three generations of Toronto residents?
