Toronto neighbourhood's sole gay bar announces permanent closure
It seems like a dismal summer for Toronto bars, with another closure on the horizon: C.C.'s Bar & Grill is bidding farewell to the city's food scene.
The owners took to their official Instagram account to share that the team is having a farewell party later this month, creating buzz about an impending closure without explicitly stating it.
Before this announcement, the team posted about the Amazing Bar Sale, encouraging the community to buy its inventory of dishes, decorations, bar signs, vinyl, and more. The post initially cemented the closure news almost a week ago.
Support for the bar has since poured into the comments section, with the restaurant's regulars expressing their disappointment. "This is so sad. Your space is wonderful. I hope you'll be able to reopen elsewhere in the future," someone wrote.
"Nooooo! That's sad news!! C.C.'s has been a dreamy East End location. Thank you both for it all, and best to you for whatever's next!" another patron chimed in.
The bar and grill, popular for its casual dining and low-key atmosphere, often hosts karaoke and LGBTQIA2S+ nights, making it an inclusive hangout spot for a night out throughout the week: the only nightlife hub expressly devoted to the queer community in the area.
While the reason behind the decision to shutter its doors hasn't been revealed, this closure may not come as a huge surprise for Toronto residents. Several restaurants have succumbed to the rising costs of running a small business in the city.
C.C's Bar & Grill was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
C.C.'s Bar & Grill will host its farewell party on Sept. 19, starting at 7 p.m. Its last day of operation is Sept. 28. The bar is located at 1564 Danforth Ave.
