A Montreal-based doughnut shop that's on a global expansion path is about to open its first Toronto location.
For anyone who grew up watching The Simpsons, the humble doughnut can be associated with one name only: Homer. While comparisons to the bumbling, balding, yellow family man may not be met with much enthusiasm, his affinity for doughnuts has cemented an undying association between the two.
The character was certainly the inspiration for Montreal's Homers Boite a Beignes — a rapidly expanding chain that now boasts 13 locations across Quebec, with more planned for cities around the world.
The doughnut chain, which is anglicized as "Homies," boasts that it sells over 5,000 fresh doughnuts — available in a selection of flavours from classic glazed to Biscoff and creme brulee — per day, and it's not hard to see why.
A single traditional doughnut at Homies is priced at just $2.25, while signature flavours or "favoris de Homers" go for $3, and gourmet cost $3.50.
Alongside the doughnuts, the shop also sells seriously stacked cinnamon buns, including Oreo cheesecake and tiramisu, coffee-based beverages and milkshakes.
If all of this sweet treat talk has your mouth watering, you're in luck: Homies will soon be opening its first location in Toronto and, judging by the way the shop has exploded across Quebec, it almost certainly won't be the last.
According to founder Tony Axiotis, the ultimate goal for Homies is to open one location in every town across Canada (or, perhaps, the world), so for the chain's first act in Ontario, he's setting his sights on Scarborough.
Setting up shop at Morningside Crossing, the shop is expected to open by the end of April, though its official opening date has not yet been announced. If you want to get involved with Homies beyond just eating there, hiring to join the team is happening now.
Homies Toronto will be located at 4545 Kingston Rd.
