One of Toronto's most popular boutique hotels is flipping the script on its food offerings, transforming its opulent in-house restaurant into an unbuttoned spot for comfort food.
The rooftop bar and restaurant tend to get all the glory when it comes to food offerings at Riverside's Broadview Hotel, and for good reason; it has some of the best views in the city, but the hotel's lobby restaurant, The Civic, however, had similarly been a standby in the neighbourhood since the hotel opened in 2017.
The Civic is officially a thing of the past, though, and Toronto finally has the scoop on what's replacing it.
Enter Archie's: a perfect foil to the tufted leather and deer tartare of The Civic.
While The Civic was all about glamour, Archie's is poised to be an accessible, welcoming eatery, positioned to become a neighbourhood hub rather than a special-occasion luxury.
According to Archive Hospitality, the management team that oversees the hospitality portfolio for Dream Unlimited, Broadview Hotel's parent company, Archie's will be "a true family-friendly local spot rooted in timeless comfort."
It's a nod not only to the increasing demand for comfortable neighbourhood restaurants, but to a renewed interest in classic, pared-down dishes done well. One can't help but draw parallels to Gladstone Hotel's Cassette, another of Archive Hospitality's recent revamps.
While the specifics of the menu are being held strictly under wraps for now, you can expect a full suite of "craveable classics" and an "expertly crafted drinks menu" that includes beer, wine, cocktails and non-alcoholic options.
If the example of Cassette can provide any blueprint, that'll look like familiar, easy-to-understand menu standards reinvented in unexpected ways, but we'll just have to wait to find out what exactly the Broadview Hotel team has in store.
The official opening date for Archie's has yet to be announced, but the hotel confirms it should be coming in late spring 2026.
The Broadview Hotel is located at 106 Broadview Ave.
