Beloved Toronto Jamaican food truck leaving longtime home at transit station

A Scarborough food truck known for deliciously indulgent Jamaican eats is leaving its longtime home at Guildwood GO Station.

Good Eats by Julian has become somewhat of a local institution in the Guildwood area, serving authentic Jamaican comfort food with a twist from its food truck. Now, that chapter appears to be coming to an end.

Julian, the owner and chef behind the beloved Scarborough business, announced the closure on Instagram.

"After a long time, I think it's finally time to say goodbye to the GO Station," the statement reads. It goes on to thank the community for its support and for all the orders it has received.

Commuters and locals alike have long visited the GO station staple, known for its bold menu that goes well beyond the usual jerk chicken-and-rice fare.

Its signature oxtail burger became the talk of the town, pairing tender braised oxtail with a burger bun and saucy fixings for a unique mix of Caribbean and North American flavours.

Good Eats by Julian's fish burger and jerk chicken are also among the long list of delicacies that helped put the food truck on the map.

Originally starting at Scarborough GO Station, the kitchen on wheels anchored at its current location, Guildwood GO Station, in October 2023 after construction at the former location forced the team to relocate.

And, to be completely honest, the location has always been part of the charm.

The truck gave diners a chance to turn a routine trip home into an impromptu Jamaican food run, quite literally acting as a place to grab dinner on the go after work.

Support and heartbreak have been pouring into the comments section since the announcement was posted, with locals and regulars devastated by the news.

"Please tell me you're relocating," someone commented. Another wrote, "I need to come by before you leave!"

At the moment, it's unclear whether Good Eats by Julian will relocate to another Scarborough hotspot or whether Julian is stepping away from the food-truck scene altogether. Online speculation is also pointing to an impending brick-and-mortar location. Whether another location is already in the works remains to be seen.

Julian was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

For now, the last day of operation also remains unknown. All we know is that the Guildwood GO chapter for Good Eats by Julian is coming to an end, and Scarborough may just have to wait and see where Julian pops up next.

The truck is currently located at 4105 Kingston Rd. and is open Wednesday to Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
