There's a new bar coming soon to Ontario that's all about butter, butter and more butter.
Yes, you read that right, but no, it's probably not exactly what you're thinking.
While the words "butter" and "bar" in one sentence may immediately conjure up images of shot glasses filled to the brim with the melted spread, or butterballs perched on the edge of a martini glass in place of olives, Port Credit's soon-to-open ButterBar uses the term bar more liberally.
It's a bar in the way that a blow-dry bar is, or how CycleBar is. Either way, ButterBar's arrival in Port Credit is made no less exciting despite the absence of butter-infused cocktails on its menu. Whether you want to call it a bar or a store, it's the first of its kind to open in Canada, and it's going to be a butter-lover's dream.
The new store is the first brick-and-mortar store of a business by the same name.
Since 2018, ButterBar founder Kate Engineer has been a stalwart at local markets and pop-ups, also operating an impressive online business that delivers across the GTA.
The star of the show? Butter. Engineer whips up a diverse array of various flavoured butters, running the gamut from savoury sticks like truffle garlic and thyme, sage and rosemary, to sweet ones, including pumpkin spice maple and cinnamon sugar nutmeg.
For the past eight years, the business has steadily built up an enthusiastic following, and, finally, it's deepening its retail presence with the arrival of its first permanent store in the coming months.
"We will carry our full assortment of flavoured butters, including our seasonally rotated flavours, AND we will offer a unique selection of gourmet goods that pair perfectly with our flavoured butters, along with serve ware, linens, and fun butter themed items," a post on Instagram, announcing ButterBar's new store, reads.
"This is the first BUTTER focused store in Canada for our butter lovers and foodies! We will offer gift curating in house, along with ready to enjoy entertaining boards!! There will be daily sampling of course, and we are also trying to focus on local and Canadian made partnerships and products as much as possible!"
While the exact opening date for ButterBar is still up in the air, the business confirms via Instagram post that it's coming to 1006 Lagoon St. this spring. Spring is usually all about buttercups blooming, but this year, it's a butter bar that's taking root.
