Ontario is full of diverse cultures, people, and traditions — and Food Basics wants to celebrate them with a new cookbook series, More Flavours of Home.
As a grocer rooted in communities across the province, Food Basics sees cultural traditions reflected every day in the ingredients people buy, the meals they prepare, and the stories they share. More Flavours of Home will help bring those traditions and the people behind them to a wider audience.
If you know someone who loves to cook, they could be a part of it! What makes this series unique is that it's community-sourced, bringing together authentic recipes, personal stories, and cultural traditions shared across the province.
So, who will be featured? That's where you come into play! Food Basics is inviting Ontario to nominate the home cooks whose dishes and traditions hold a special place in their families and communities.
Those selected will be featured in one of three editions of More Flavours of Home celebrating Diwali, Ramadan and Lunar New Year, where they'll share recipes and stories that have been passed down and kept alive across generations.
The cookbooks will be available on the Food Basics website, making it easy for Ontarians to discover, recreate, and celebrate these cherished recipes at home.
Maybe your sister has a reputation for making the best dumplings, or your friends' family includes you in a feast to celebrate the Festival of Lights. Perhaps your aunt makes the best samosas, or there's someone who always brings over delicious mithai.
Nothing brings people together like food. More Flavours of Home recognizes that some of the most meaningful cultural moments happen around the table, where food preserves traditions, reflects identity, and brings people together.
If you know someone whose cooking deserves recognition, nominate them to be featured in an upcoming edition of More Flavours of Home by visiting the Food Basics website.
Nominations open on Aug. 20 and close on Sept. 7 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
