Luxe Toronto spa is about to be replaced by a new Shake Shack location

A prime piece of Toronto real estate that was most recently home to a swanky spa is about to be taken over by something decidedly less upscale: yet another Shake Shack location.

Shake Shack has been spreading like a fungus across Toronto ever since the chain's first Canadian location landed with a major splash at Yonge and Dundas in the summer of 2024.

The novelty of a sole, expansive and painstakingly curated location was short-lived, though, as the American smashburger heavyweight almost immediately opened additional locations at Yorkdale Mall and Union Station, followed by four more.

And the chain isn't done yet. Aside from confirming that it's eyeing a Canada-wide expansion, there are at least three more Shake Shack outposts slated to land in Toronto in 2026, the first of which is a King West location set to take over the former home of Majesty's Pleasure.

One year ago, the spa (which has since honed in on its Yorkville and NYC locations) announced it would close its expansive King West flagship after a decade due to what co-founder Jeff Armstrong described to blogTO as a "demographic change" in the neighbourhood that he attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Perhaps the new King West demographic will be more eager to spend their downtown dollars on crinkle-cut fries and frozen custards than mani-pedis. Only time will tell.

The opening date for Shake Shack's new King West location has yet to be announced, but statements from the chain have promised that it's coming in early 2026, which, believe it or not, is right around the corner.

Shake Shack will be located at 556 King West.
