Recall affects ice cream sold at Costco Canada locations

If you purchased ice cream at Costco Canada, make sure to check your freezer as the company has announced a recall due to a health risk.

On Dec. 4, Costco Canada published a recall notice for the Desi-Licious Kulfi Ice Cream Sticks, which were sold at warehouses and Costco Business Centres between Oct. 17, 2024, and Dec. 2, 2025. Gelda Foods, which is a division of Gelda and the Scientific and Industrial Department Corporation, is recalling several lots of the ice cream due to possible salmonella contamination.

The recalled dessert is a box of 14 lactose-free Indian-style ice cream sticks. It comes in two flavours: malai masti and pista passion. The ice cream is traditionally made with milk, pistachio, and cardamom.

Costco Canada shoppers are urged not to consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the affected product.

"You may return the Desi-Licious Kulfi Ice Cream Sticks to a Costco warehouse to obtain a full refund," reads a statement from Gelda Foods.

Customers are warned that food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but it can still make you sick. While healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, or diarrhea, it can be dangerous for young children, pregnant people, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Salmonella can also cause long-term complications, including severe arthritis.

If you think you purchased this product, make sure to check the lot codes printed on the front of the package above the best-before date. The affected lots include the following codes: 4283, 4284, 4297, 4303, 4304, 4305, 4306, 4310, 5126, 5127, 5130, 5132, 5134, 5136, 5140, 5143, 5148, 5149, 5157, 5168, and 5169.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask you to please pass this letter along to anyone to whom Desi-Licious Kulfi Ice Cream Sticks may have been given," states Gelda Food.

Shoppers should also be aware of the recently expanded recall involving pistachios and pistachio-containing products.
