A new neighbourhood pizza restaurant just opened in Toronto, and some people are already proclaiming it one of the best in the city.
There are a handful of food debates in the city that can get so heated it's sometimes better to not bother wading into them.
Can Detroit and NYC-style pizzas really be pitted against each other when deciding the best pizza in the city? Do subway station patties actually taste better, or is it just because you're hungry and commuting? Are smash burgers actually that good?
I shudder to even write them down, lest I spark some major uprising. Still, above them all, the biggest, meanest dragon to slay is, and has always been, the question of who in the city makes the best pizza.
Sure, we've got our own opinions, critics have theirs, and an elite crop of familiar faces tend to appear on the lists of many a Toronto pizza fanatic, but there's always room for someone new to make their bid for the top honours.
It's unclear whether Nick White, owner and founder of Harbord Village's Nice Slice, started his cozy, neighbourhood pizza shop with the intention of becoming known for serving some of the city's best slices, but, just two weeks since opening, some people are already offering him the crown.
Most notably, former Bachelor star-turned-food influencer, Matt James, has been the latest to visit the shop, putting his stamp of approval on Nice Slice in a TikTok filmed during a recent trip to Toronto.

"This is the best pizza in Toronto," James boldly states in the video.
"I found it on accident. I was headed to the bakery across the street, when the smell of their pizza literally pulled me into the shop."
In his case, James ordered the vodka pepperoni pizza ($25) with garlic dip on the side, but he says, "everything looked good," too.
Other current offerings at Nice Slice include classics like cheese and pepperoni, red pie, Zaatar and sausage with long hots, all at $25 for a whole pie or $5 for a slice, so if there's one thing you can be sure of, there's something for everyone.
Is it really the best pizza in Toronto, though? That's always going to be a case of preference, and entirely too subjective to possibly answer definitively. If you ask me, though, it's certainly a contender that's earned a spot among the heavyweights.
Nice Slice is located at 196 Borden St.
