Ontario cop sneaks up and tackles suspect off motorcycle in wild arrest video
A York Regional Police (YRP) officer snuck up on a suspect on the run and tackled him off his bike in a wild video shared to social media on Monday.
YRP shared a video outlining the incident that occurred last month in Richmond Hill, where a motorcycle driver's takedown was captured in bodycam footage.
Bodycam footage from Ontario typically only sees the light of day through freedom of information requests and investigations into police wrongdoing. In this case, the cops are clearly getting a kick out of their officer tackling a suspect to the ground, and even tagged the official NFL Canada account to boast of their takedown.
The edited clip begins with bodycam video dated Aug. 9, 2026, where an officer at the intersection of 16th Avenue and Mural Street approaches and tackles a motorcycle rider.
Police state that about ten minutes before the arrest, a motorcycle rider was involved in a collision and was told to return to the scene to exchange information. The motorcycle rider is alleged to have refused to stop and left the area despite being advised he was under arrest.
An officer can be heard on his squad car's dash cam explaining that "I yelled at him to pull over to try and exchange information, and then I motioned my finger to him towards the parking lot."
The officer then states the motorcycle driver "raised his finger towards me and did the motion of 'no' and then continued driving eastbound."
Once officers catch up to the motorcycle driver, a squad car at the opposite corner of the intersection says the suspect appeared to taunt them, while, unbeknownst to him, another patrol car was sneaking up off-road from his blind spot.
The perfectly positioned officer then quietly steps out of the car, gently closing the door so as not to tip off the suspect, and proceeds to sneak within striking distance. The officer then closes out the sneak attack with a blindside tackle, taking the suspect to the ground — which all plays out to the NFL on Fox theme added to the social media post.
Supporting officers quickly appear on the scene, one of whom pulls an alleged fake license plate from the suspect's motorcycle.
The YRP states that the suspect was charged with a list of offences including failure to stop after accident, flight from peace officer, driving without insurance, accident - fail to disclose insurance particulars, and use of an unauthorized license plate.
