Major outages will cut off over 80km of train service into Toronto this weekend

GO Transit outages this weekend will cut off over 80 kilometres of rail service into Toronto, with partial and complete closures across two lines.

The regional transit agency plans to shut down service on most of its Lakeshore East Line and the entire Stouffville Line on the upcoming weekend of Sept. 26-27.

Combined with a planned weekend subway closure that will cut off service on the northern end of the TTC's Line 1, the overlapping scheduled GO Transit outages will make for a particularly challenging weekend for commuters coming in and out of the city.

Lakeshore East Line

Construction along the Lakeshore East route will require a halt in train service on Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27.

GO trains will run between Durham College Oshawa and Ajax GO on an hourly schedule, while the rest of the route will be covered by replacement buses. GO buses will make stops at Pickering, Ajax, and Union Station, but will not service Rouge Hill, Guildwood, Eglinton, Scarborough or Danforth GO stations along the way.

Metrolinx

Approximately 34 kilometres of track will be closed during this outage.

Stouffville Line

The entire Stouffville Line will be out of service for the weekend of Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27 due to planned construction along the route.

GO buses will replace service along the approximately 50-kilometre train route at all stations except Kennedy, Agincourt and Milliken GO.

Metrolinx

Passengers are advised that two sub-routes will operate. The 71C bus will run direct between Union Station and Unionville GO, then make all stops to Old Elm GO, while the 71E bus will operate on the same route until Unionville, where it will then proceed to make all stops to Mount Joy GO.
