Key stretch of TTC subway will shut down for this entire weekend

TTC subway closures this weekend will complicate travel in the north end of the city, and Toronto commuters will want to plan ahead.

A busy stretch of the TTC's Line 1 Yonge-University subway will shut down for the entire weekend of Sept. 26-27, 2026, cutting off rapid transit access to the northernmost portion of the line's Yonge leg.

The TTC has announced it will shut down Line 1 between Finch and Sheppard-Yonge stations starting with an early closure on Friday, Sept. 25, at 11:59 p.m., and lasting until the end of service on Sunday, Sep. 27, attributing the closure to "planned signal work."

The transit agency shared that train service will be replaced by shuttle buses along the 2.1-kilometre stretch spanning Sheppard, North York Centre, and Finch stations for the duration of the closure.

All three stations affected by the closure will remain open for customers to purchase/reload fares and connect with surface routes.

The closure will end in time for regular morning service on Monday, Sept. 28.
