Major stretches of GO Transit to shut down for the next two weekends

Significant stretches of GO Transit will shut down for the next two weekends.

Metrolinx announced that portions of the Barrie and Kitchener lines will go out of service for the coming weekends of Sept. 12-13 and 19-20.

A combined nine stations will be impacted across the two planned closures, and here's everything you need to know to navigate the planned disruption ahead.

Barrie Line

Planned construction taking place along the Barrie Line will halt GO Train service between Downsview Park GO and Union Station on both weekends: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12-13 and 19-20.

Metrolinx states that trains will continue to run between Allandale Waterfront and Downsview Park GO, while the stretch to the south will be replaced by shuttle buses.

The transit agency notes that train service between Downsview Park GO and Union Station resumes on Monday, Sept. 14 and Monday, Sept. 21, though some schedules are to be adjusted, with most trains arriving or departing several minutes before or after their normally scheduled times.

Kitchener Line

GO's Kitchener Line will experience a partial shutdown during those same two weekends due to construction taking place along the route.

There will be no trains running from Stratford or Kitchener stations (some scheduled trains do not serve the former) to Mount Pleasant station, as well as another key stretch through Toronto spanning from Mount Dennis to Union Station.
