These Ontario businesses were named some of the best in Canada for 2026

Over half of Canada's 40 best places to work in 2026 are located right here in Ontario, according to a new list of the top employers in the country. 

This week, HRD (Human Resources Director) Canada released its 2026 Best Places to Work list, which recognizes 40 organizations across the country where "employee engagement is thriving and every voice drives action." 

While the report notes that global engagement is sharply declining across the world, including in Canada, where rising costs, skills shortages and AI are rewriting employee relationships, there are several businesses where satisfaction is flourishing. 

The list highlights employers whose own employees rated them an overall satisfaction level of at least 75 per cent across 21 categories through an anonymous survey, including compensation, flexibility, benefits, culture, and professional development. 

"Being a top employer in 2026 starts with a formal employee listening strategy across the lifecycle, paired with visible action," said Laura Hansen-Kohls, vice president, HR diagnostics, advisory and data insights at McLean & Company in Toronto.

"Meaningful listening means leaders ask questions, clarify, and work to understand the real issues behind what employees share, then consistently acknowledge and close the loop, even if you can't act on it."

Other markers included in the survey range from health and wellness programs and turnover rates to flexible work options, average staff tenure, and diversity initiatives. 

In first place is CNIB Deafblind Community Services, which is headquartered in Toronto and is Ontario's leading provider of specialized support and emergency services for individuals who are Deafblind. 

Another Toronto-based company, namely OntarioMD, was also featured on the top three list at #3. The organization offers free services to support primary care clinicians and community specialists to utilize technology to enhance patient care.
