New Costco store could be coming to this Ontario town

Costco fans in Ontario may soon have a reason to celebrate. A proposed development in Caledon has reached another milestone, bringing the much-anticipated warehouse store one step closer to becoming a reality.

The proposed 36-acre retail development near Creditview and Mayfield roads is currently under review by the Town of Caledon following a new round of submissions from the development team.

At the heart of the development is Costco, which is expected to anchor the site and occupy the largest portion of the development. A standalone gas station is also planned for the site.

According to the Town of Caledon's Site Plan Application, the proposed commercial complex would include 10 buildings across two development blocks, with a collector road running between them. In addition to the warehouse store and gas station, the remaining buildings would comprise a mix of commercial buildings.

Costco, identified as Retail A on Block 1 on the latest site plan, is a sought-after addition to the area. As a result, the project — originally submitted to the Town of Caledon in November 2024 — has been closely followed by residents. If approved, Costco would occupy 167,021 square feet of retail space in the northern portion of Block 1.

The developer, Glen Schnarr & Associates Inc., has revised the original proposal and submitted updated plans after receiving feedback from municipal staff and other reviewing agencies. Following a meeting on June 16, the project was cleared to move forward in the approval process after meeting the technical requirements needed for the site plan.

According to a staff report, a separate application connected to the development was also recently submitted to the Town. The request seeks to remove a holding provision on part of the property, a planning step that would allow construction to begin if approved.

In addition to Costco, the development plans include a fast-food restaurant with a drive-thru and a Chalo! FreshCo grocery store spanning 46,995 square feet in Block 2.

Although the remaining businesses have not yet been disclosed, more details are expected as the project moves through the planning and approval process. No opening date has been announced, and the Town has not indicated when a final decision on the applications could be made.

A Costco in Caledon would likely be welcomed by many residents, particularly those who currently have to travel to existing locations in cities like Brampton and Mississauga for big grocery runs. The wholesale retailer has long been a favourite among Ontario shoppers, and in 2025, it once again topped the list as Canada's number one grocery retailer.

There has been a steady surge in Costco developments across the province in the recent past. Earlier this year, the City of Oakville approved the final site plan for the opening of a new Costco store on the border of Oakville and Burlington

The proposed development would be located at 12100 Creditview Rd. in Caledon, Ont.
