Controversial Toronto yacht club destroyed by three-alarm fire

The Toronto Humber Yacht Club has been destroyed by a three-alarm fire after 70 years in operation.

Toronto Fire Crews reported that at least 100 firefighters responded to an active fire at the yacht club just before 5 a.m..

While the blaze had been brought under control as of 6:34 a.m., fire crews were unable to save the building, which has been described as "destroyed" with a collapsed roof.

Photos and videos of the blaze on social media show the damage done to the building by the inferno.

The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.

The yacht club has long attracted controversy, including sparking outrage from locals in 2025 when the facility added 60 gazebos along the Humber River.

Area residents expressed concern about the yacht club's expansion "beyond its allocated footprint," including the addition of parking space and a gas dock that allegedly extends a third of the way across the water.
