Despite soaring rent, sky-high home prices, and persistent inflation, Toronto has earned a spot among the best cities in the world in one surprising category: raising a family.
A new report from Compare the Market ranked cities based on family-friendly features, and, thanks to its abundance of schools, parks, museums, and kids' amenities, among other factors, Toronto placed in the top 50.
Toronto landed in 29th place while Montreal, the only other Canadian city on the list, came in 31st place.
To determine the best cities in the world to raise a family, the price comparison website analyzed each city based on nine data points: safety, world happiness score, child-friendly activities, monthly cost of living, national family benefits, parental leave, green spaces, child vaccination rates and education spending.
Brisbane, Australia, was named the best city in the world to raise a family due to its high safety score (90 out of 100), wealth of green spaces per capita (84.89) and generous paternal leave weeks offered (54).
A total of four Australian cities dominated the top ten, all due to being "much more affordable" than other cities to raise a family.
