Welcoming a furry friend into the household is a huge commitment, but the first step is always choosing a name for your new adopted furchild.

Pet care platform Rover has shared its list of the top pet names from across the nation this year, including the most popular names for puppies and kittens adopted in Ontario.

The survey of 500 pet parents looked into the naming of pets under the age of 2 years old and applied a minimum threshold for names spanning August 2024 to September 2025.

So, what were the most popular pet names of the year in Ontario?

Ontario pet owners leaned on the name Elsie the most for new puppies, while the most common name for kittens in the province was the somewhat uncreative Baby.

Nationwide, the top puppy name was Cedar, and the top name for kittens was Marshmallow.
