The Finch West LRT will officially open on Dec. 7, 2025.
Metrolinx documents reveal that the long-awaited LRT will finally enter service as the TTC's Line 6 in just over two weeks, ending a drawn-out saga of delays and cost overruns.
A report produced for an upcoming Nov. 27 Metrolinx Board of Directors meeting reveals that the transit agency has locked in an opening date.
"Major readiness milestones in relation to the opening of the line have been achieved. Following the successful completion of the final 30-day revenue service demonstration, which enabled Metrolinx to assess and validate the line's performance and reliability, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) assumed full operational control on Wednesday, November 12," the report reads.
"Metrolinx is working with the TTC to prepare for the start of revenue service on December 7, 2025."
Initially scheduled to begin construction in 2016 and open in 2021, the project would not start until 2018, and opening projections were later pushed back to 2023 before that target, too, was missed.
The 18-stop, 10.3-kilometre light rail line will serve Finch Avenue West from Keele Street to Highway 27, before turning south to the Humber College north campus.
