Popular stretch of Toronto trail to close for a month

A busy portion of a popular Toronto trail is set to close for roughly a month, and potentially even longer, as part of an ongoing construction project near Long Branch GO Station.

Metrolinx requires the closure of a stretch of the scenic Etobicoke Creek Trail to allow additional work space for its long-term rehabilitation of the Etobicoke Creek Railway Bridge, which it states is "critical to maintaining safe and reliable service on the Lakeshore West Line."

The transit agency plans to shutter access to the portion of the trail passing under the railway bridge "to accommodate increased crew size, additional equipment and multiple work areas."

This portion of the trail will be restricted to the public starting on Nov. 28, 2025, and lasting until at least Dec. 22, 2025. However, Metrolinx has stated that "The closure may extend longer [...] depending on progress."

Even with this almost month-long work schedule, the task at hand will still require 24-hour-a-day construction on upcoming weekends in November and December.

The trail disruption adds another hiccup for locals on top of the existing path closure from Forty Third Street to the Etobicoke Creek Trail, which is expected to last through the duration of construction until next summer.

The long-term rehab of the bridge kicked off on Jan. 13, 2025, and is currently scheduled to last until July 30, 2026.

Work on the bridge supports started early this year, and the rehab has since advanced to replacement of the crossing's steel spans, requiring seven service interruptions on the Lakeshore West Line scheduled to occur between September and December.
