There are always different types of wacky antics taking place on Ontario's highways and local streets, and though no one has gotten embarrassingly stuck in a transit corridor or tunnel reserved for streetcars lately, this past week has yielded some pretty ridiculous traffic stops in the GTA.
Along with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) nabbing motorists stunt driving at speeds of nearly 180 km/h and trying to get away with phony licence plates, one of the more unbelievable busts on the province's roadways in recent days involved someone getting behind the wheel despite the fact that their licence was suspended not just years, but decades ago.
The OPP shared the shocking story to social media Wednesday evening, stating that officers had pulled the person in question over for speeding along Highway 407 in Burlington, only to find that they hadn't had a valid licence for a whopping 40 years.
"Suspended driver since 1985! Also wanted by police," the force's Highway Safety Division wrote on X.
The team added that the 60-year-old driver, who hails from Toronto and was going 144 km/h at the time they were pulled over, was forwarded to local authorities due to an outstanding warrant, along with being slapped with multiple traffic charges as a result of the stop.

Also "WANTED" by police.#HETOPP stopped the driver for speeding #Hwy407/Burlington. 60-year old driver from Toronto facing more traffic offences and turned over to neighboring police services for outstanding warrant. ^ks pic.twitter.com/pQgOcML5Dw
Citizens were quick to reply to the news with shock, chiming in with comments like "I wasn't even born yet" and joking that "if I was gonna drive suspended for 40 years with warrants, I'd only do 5 km/h over."
Though wild, it's not nearly the first case of its kind: In 2020, one resident with a staggering eight lifetime driving bans was pulled over for speeding near Orangeville.
