Donald Trump bails on G7 Summit in Canada with early exit

U.S. President Donald Trump will be leaving the G7 Summit in Alberta ahead of schedule, his press secretary announced Monday evening.

Trump landed in Calgary yesterday evening and met with Prime Minister Mark Carney in front of the press pool earlier today.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the announcement just before 5:30 p.m. that because of "what's going on in the Middle East," President Trump will be leaving Alberta Monday night after dinner with Heads of State present at the summit.

President Trump had a great day at the G7, even signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State.

Trump had been scheduled to depart Canada on Tuesday after a news conference.

The Israel-Iran conflict has entered its fifth day with more attacks between the two countries, and shortly before the news broke that Trump would be departing the G7 Summit early, he took to Truth Social to states that "Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran."

The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal grouping of seven of the world's advanced economies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, in addition to the European Union.

The summit in Kananaskis is scheduled to be held from June 15 to 17.

Alberta last held the meeting in June 2002, when Prime Minister Jean Chretien welcomed G8 world leaders to Kananaskis, including President George W. Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair.
