Stunning new holographic Canada coin will cost you over 7x face value

If you loved anything holographic when you were a kid, Canada's new coin will certainly have you mesmerized.

The Royal Canadian Mint released the Moon Sky: Raven — 1 oz. Fine Silver Coin that showcases the Raven, which plays a central role in many Inuit legends. It's the Mint's only holographic coin in 2025.

"These stories are passed down to each new generation of artists and storytellers, inspiring them to create beautiful interpretations of these timeless tales, as seen on this 99.99 per cent pure silver coin," reads the coin's description.

The design

Nunatsiavut artist Bronson Jacque designed the reverse of the coin. According to the Mint, the artist illustrated a new interpretation of the traditional Raven figure of Inuit legends.

There's a realistic version of a raven perched on a branch and surrounded by trees on the lower engraved portion of the coin, which is supposed to represent humans grounded in their sense of self.

The raven on the upper half of the coin soars high into the sky, realizing they are Raven, the Creator of Life.

"The holographic raven takes flight, its wings vibrant and entrancing like our legends passed down through generations; it is our creativity that we nurture, which births our boundless inner worlds," Jacque told the Mint.

The holographic effect was created by striking 3D embossing micro-textures into the coin's surface during the minting process. According to the Crown corporation, the colours on the hologram may appear iridescent, shifting between hues like blue, green, yellow, or red, depending on the lighting and the angle from which it's viewed.

"The spectrum of colours seemingly shifts depending on the viewing angle, creating the illusion of motion as it illuminates the raven's feathers," reads the description.

The obverse features the effigy of King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.

How to collect this coin

Collectors can buy the coin on the Mint's site for a hefty $144.95. If you don't have this cash lying around, you do have the option to pay for it in installments.

It has a low mintage of only 7,500 coins, so grab one while supplies last.
