Lines for GO Transit to Niagara Falls were brutal over the weekend but for good reason

Toronto may be the city most known for its brutal crowding for ferries on prime island-going days or for shuttle buses during all-too-regular TTC disruptions, but one other GTA city briefly got a taste of this T.O. brand of chaos over the weekend when a GO Transit delay threw a wrench in their plans.

GO has become a popular option for people across the region looking to get to major attractions like Niagara Falls on a budget and without having to stress about driving or parking.

But unfortunately for residents of Burlington who were planning to head to the destination for a day trip on Sunday, a service issue with the Niagara train backed up throngs of frustrated people across an entire platform.

A photo shared to social media shows what appear to be dozens waiting for their GO trip to the falls, which a few chimed in with complaints about, saying Canada has become "too crowded," and that local transit is "failing riders every day" and is proving to be far more difficult than just investing in a car.  

Metrolinx tells blogTO, though, that the congestion was only temporary, and was not due to unmet demand, but an incident on the rail line that pushed many customers onto shuttle buses instead.

"We received an initial report Sunday morning that a rail partner had struck an individual near Aldershot GO. As a result, GO Train service was temporarily impacted, and a Niagara-bound train was cancelled at Burlington GO," they explained.

They added that the accident did not result in a fatality, and that scheduled service was able to be resumed in about an hour. In the meantime, additional buses were sent to support, which is what the groups depicted in the image were waiting for.

As one said on X in response to this correct information, "context is everything."
