Mitzi's on College headed for the deadpool

Posted by Robyn Urback / February 23, 2012

mitzis college closedMitzi's on College will be serving its famous oatmeal buttermilk pancakes for the last time this weekend. That's right, the pancake eggy brunch deliciousness will dry up after Sunday, leaving sister restaurants Mitzi's Cafe and Mitzi's Sister to hold the comfort food reins.

Owner Lesli Gaynor told Post City Magazine that managing three separate spots just became too much, and that she has decided to focus on the two restaurants she believes to be better established.

The news of the closure is undoubtedly unfortunate for area residents who view Mitzi's as one of the best brunch spots in Toronto, though the cafe and the sister are only a (hungry, Saturday-morning-hung-over) saunter away.

Mitzi's Sister has been simply "The Sister" for a little while now.

This location was the worst of the 3. The only thing more obnoxious than the staff was the clientelle they attracted. If the diners were locals, remind me to stay out of that neighbourhood. What a bunch of spoiled children passing as adults! Just gross! They layout of the place also sucked hard! Hope these regulars don't start showing up where I frequent!!

I want to say that I am sad to see this go, but I agree that this is not the best location. I went once, back when it was new-ish, and I wasn't blown away, nor have I been back since. Best of luck with the other two locations and to the neighbourhood.

I like the other mitzis... but, this one was awful awful.
The decor/layout/vibe was just horrendous (which is really odd since the other locations are charming)and the food, while at times tasty, was waaay overpriced and quite often cold to the touch.

The only bad part about this is that the people who happily ate at the over-priced Mitzi's will now find their way to Hadley's and Brass Taps, which both have way better brunches.

I'm not surprised Mitzi's is going to the deadpool considering how overpriced it was. I'll forgo cranberries in my water for better tasting and more affordable brunch just down the street at Hadley's
