The next time you're planning an Ontario staycation where you can rest, relax, and enjoy the thrill of getting up close and personal with real live wolves, one hotel in Timmins actually lets you sleep alongside the majestic canids in the forest.
Tucked away in the woods just five minutes from central Timmins, Cedar Meadows Resort and Spa sits on 175 acres of land and features a 100-acre wildlife park, 49 guest suites, 10 chalets, a spa, and its premium restaurant, the CM Steakhouse.
The resort offers a variety of rooms, including options with fireplaces and jacuzzi tubs. But for those who want to make even more out of their stay, the resort's Sleeping with the Wolves experience is not to be missed.
"Cedar Meadows Resort and Spa's Sleeping with the Wolves is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, which first opened in 2024," a representative from the property tells blogTO.
Guests who book the Sleeping with the Wolves experience stay in glass-walled Wolf Cabins, which are fully equipped with a small kitchenette, bathroom, queen-sized bed and pull-out sofa, and a small cozy living room complete with a fireplace. Each chalet can comfortably accommodate up to four people.
These chalets sit on 10 acres of fenced-off land where the wolves are free to roam. Adjacent to this area is a seven-acre forest that's open for the wolves to run and play.
Although guests cannot leave their cabins to interact with the animals, they can expect the wolves to be active around the area throughout their stay. According to resort staff, many visitors have watched the wolves come right up to the windows of the glass-walled Wolf Cabin.
"We want our guests to feel like they're sleeping outside, under the stars, amidst these wild animals. That's the experience each of these cabins is meant to create," the representative adds.
And for those wondering if there is any risk involved, the Cedar Meadows staff puts any hesitant visitors at ease, stating, "We take guests into their Wolf Cabin through a separate entrance that's located on the guest side of the fence line."
They go on to explain that the fence actually splits the cabin area in two, keeping the wolves in the backyard while guests remain on their own side. "Our guests are forbidden to access the 10-acre enclosure where the wolves roam free."
The wolf pack at Cedar Meadows consists of 11 wolves, all of which were brought to the property from a zoo in southern Ontario, with four of them being just a little over 1.5 years old.
The Sleeping with the Wolves experience is available year-round, and it starts at $600 per night. Guests can book their stay directly from the property's official website.
