U.S. tourist leaves rave review of Toronto visit and here's what they said

Although it was a frustrating long weekend for many Toronto residents, thanks to the heavy traffic caused by multiple overlapping events, such as the CNE and the Air Show, some tourists, including this one, managed to still appreciate the city's charm through all the gridlock and commotion.

The U.S. tourist, who was visiting the city from Texas, left Toronto a glowing review on Reddit, where their thread quickly amassed 550 upvotes and over 140 comments.

"I just wrapped up a 3-day visit to your city (visiting from Texas), and I've got to say, I absolutely loved it," they wrote.

"Toronto has such a unique vibe, I can't really compare it to any American city. It feels like its own thing, and it's super cool."

Despite their overwhelmingly positive review, the tourist couldn't help but deduct some points for the city's bumper-to-bumper congestion.

"The only downside was the traffic. Holy hell, it was rough today. Hopefully it's not always that bad," they continued. "Overall though, the trip made me realize how similar we all are, and it definitely left me wanting to explore more of Canada. I'll probably check out some of the other major cities in the future."

The visitor went on to ask Canadian Reddit users for their travel suggestions, including the best must-see national or provincial parks, as well as cities comparable to Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago.

As always, Toronto residents filled up the comments section with tons of recommendations, both within the GTA and outside of Ontario.

"Thanks for visiting and glad you enjoyed! You definitely picked the heavier weekend for traffic haha, lots of events in Toronto this weekend. Honestly there are too many places to list that you need to experience. In terms of major cities for tourism would be Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, and being from Texas you'd probably appreciate Calgary especially during the Stampede," one of the top comments reads.

"Natural places to see... We're blessed with a ridiculous abundance. The Rockies, Vancouver Island, Icefields in Alberta, Yukon, Bay of Fundy, Burnt coat Head, Newfoundland fjords, list just endlessly goes on (in a great way). Pick a province and go from there!"

Others went on to justify the heavy traffic, noting that the congestion was atypical and the result of several long weekend events.

"Traffic in TO over the last week was nuts due to the Canadian National Exhibition and a Blue Jays home stand," one person wrote, while another chimed in, writing, "You picked probably the worst possible weekend for traffic lol, the CNE always makes it difficult at the end of the summer, and then you have Labour Day weekend and the Air Show!"

Over the past few weeks, the city's traffic has become a hot topic of conversation among American visitors in Toronto. Another tourist, who also posted about their experience on Reddit, described the congestion in Toronto as some of the "worst" gridlock they've seen anywhere, including major U.S. cities.

"It's probably the worst I've seen anywhere including New York or D.C. or L.A. Or India," the Reddit user wrote, asking how locals cope with the backed-up roads.

Perhaps the city's traffic woes could be summed up best by one of the top comments under the thread, which reads, "Toronto, it's just one hour away from Toronto."
