We may be at the tail end of summer, but you can see the first signs of fall colours poking their way through the foliage everywhere in Ontario, and Killarney Provincial Park is no different.
Nestled in the La Cloche Mountains on Georgian Bay, Killarney Provincial Park boasts 645 square kilometres of vast wilderness ready for you to explore. The fall colours completely swallow the surrounding forests by early October, a mix of rusty and fiery reds, bright oranges, and warm amber hues.
There are so many things to do in and around the park that you can easily make Killarney Provincial Park a fall road trip destination, but if you're strictly interested in the fall foliage, then there are two points of interest you want to check out while you're there: Granite Ridge Trail and Cranberry Bog Trail.
These two trails are popular stops for those looking for picturesque views and a surefire opportunity to catch the fall colours at their best. For a less crowded option, hikers can choose to tread the Lake of the Woods Trail, where they'll definitely get more solitude and see the vibrant hues from a different perspective.
Nature lovers flock to the park this time of year, with the Municipality of Killanery reporting that approximately 50,000 park visitors come throughout the fall each season.
Killarney Provincial Park is also home to 50 pristine lakes and has yurt accommodations right on site. So, if you're in for a camping adventure, you can set up shop right on the grounds and be one with nature under the stars.
The nearby Village of Killarney also offers lodging and a vintage ambiance, suitable for anyone seeking more of an old-school charm.
Aside from hiking in the park, visitors can also canoe, bike, kayak, and fish while they're there.
Because the park is open year-round, the municipality ensures that there are ample activities for patrons to take part in, with each season specializing in particular outdoor activities suitable for the weather in question.
Since you're visiting to see the fall colours in full bloom, it's needless to say that you should dress weather-appropriately.
Remember that hikes can get cooler at this time of year, so you'll want to bundle up with layers; invest in proper footwear so you're comfortable and safe on the trails; and always carry a fully charged phone and portable charger for added safety.
Killarney Provincial Park is located at 960 ON-637, in Killarney, Ont.
