Toronto residents aren't surprised by sudden closure of entertainment hotspot

Ballroom Bowl, one of Toronto's popular entertainment hubs, appears to be in hot water, and netizens aren't necessarily surprised.

A Reddit post revealed that the Yonge and Dundas location of the multi-level entertainment and bowling hotspot has been locked and sealed, with a Notice of Termination plastered on the front door.

The notice, an image of which was shared on the online forum, confirms the closure is due to "non-payment of rent" and that "the premises have been re-entered, the locks changed, and possession taken" by the original landlord.

It also confirms that "the lease has been terminated effective immediately."

Toronto residents have since chimed in on the news, and it seems the closure didn't surprise many. "The Ballroom Bowl is horribly managed, and this is 100% on them," one Redditor wrote in the thread, which now has close to 100 comments.

"No one was ever there; I go past it often, and I've maybe once seen someone bowling in there," another Toronto resident commented.

"I had no idea there was another location, let alone two other locations. I only knew the John Street one, and only ever went there once," someone else wrote, suggesting the Yonge and Dundas location may have struggled to attract customers, eventually leading to its inability to pay the rent.

Adding fuel to the fire are comments alleging the monthly rent for the space was about $60,000, making it an unaffordable and impractical business.

Ballroom Bowl, which offers a ménage à trois as a bar, bowling alley, and nightlife venue, had a relatively short run at Yonge and Dundas, opening to the public in February 2025 as the establishment's third location in the city.

While the new outpost joined Ballroom Bowl's two longtime locations — its original flagship on John Street and Yorkville's popular hangout spot on Bloor Street — it took a different approach by offering something fresh.

The now-closed location ditched traditional 10-pin bowling in favour of duckpin bowling, a variation of the game featuring shorter pins and smaller bowling balls. The concept is not widely available at downtown Toronto bowling alleys.

Since the news broke, Google has quickly listed the business as "Permanently Closed," too, signalling that the final days of this location may be long behind us.

The Ballroom Bowl team was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
