WNBA star Caitlin Clark chirps Toronto Tempo's home arena

WNBA star Caitlin Clark made her second visit to Canada on Friday night to take on the Toronto Tempo, but the 24-year-old had a slightly different experience this time around.

Instead of the game being played at the 19,000-plus-seat Scotiabank Arena, Clark and the Indiana Fever took on the Tempo at their much smaller home, Coca-Cola Coliseum.

And Clark had some honest thoughts about the venue following the game.

"I think this is the first time that I played in an arena that [actively] has birds chirping. So, congrats Toronto," Clark said with an eye-roll during her post-game press conference.

"Hopefully we get to play at Scotiabank the rest of the way."

Coca-Cola Coliseum has served as the Tempo's home court during their inaugural season. However, the team has played three home games at Scotiabank Arena to accommodate ticket demand and national broadcasting rights.

The last time Clark's Indiana Fever played in Toronto was in August, when the game sold out at Scotiabank Arena.

Coca-Cola Coliseum first opened in the 1920s as a venue for farm livestock, but has since been renovated three times and transformed into a home for three of Toronto's professional sports teams: the Tempo, the PWHL Sceptres, and the AHL Marlies.

It's currently the oldest arena in the WNBA by about 70 years, and the team has no intention of moving away from the 8,500-capacity venue to the larger Scotiabank Arena next season.

Clark had her way against Toronto for the third time this season, recording 28 points, 14 assists and six rebounds to help the Fever win their third straight game heading into the final stretch of the WNBA regular season.

Despite her light-hearted jab at the venue, Clark said she's been impressed by the support Toronto fans have shown the Tempo during their inaugural season.

"The fans are amazing. Even when I see Tempo games on TV, these games are packed. The way Canada has rallied around this team even though they aren't making the playoffs," Clark said.

"I'm really happy and proud of them."

The Tempo have just one home game remaining in their 2026 inaugural season, with the New York Liberty visiting Coca-Cola Coliseum on Sept. 20.
