Toronto Blue Jays force rookies to rock hilarious cowboy outfits for Texas road trip

The Toronto Blue Jays are heading out on their final road trip of the 2026 season, and the team's rookies are travelling in hilarious fashion.

After a 5-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday at the Rogers Centre, the team headed to the airport bound for Dallas-Arlington ahead of a big weekend series against the Texas Rangers.

Several Blue Jays rookies were spotted leaving the stadium in trip-appropriate style — wearing sleeveless plaid shirts, cutoff jean shorts, boots and cowboy hats.

Brett Bateman, Spencer Miles, Charles McAdoo, Sean Keys, and Trey Yesavage all owned the moment on camera, though no player looked more embarrassed than slugger Kazuma Okamoto.

The Blue Jays home run leader could be seen bowing his head and shaking it in apparent disbelief.

By no surprise, the idea to have all the rookies dress up as cowboys for the flight to Texas came from MLB veteran Max Scherzer, according to Sportsnet's Hazel Mae.

The upcoming series in Texas is a big one for the Blue Jays, who currently sit 1.5 games outside of an American League Wild Card spot.

The Rangers happen to be one of the two teams Toronto is chasing, meaning this weekend's series has some pretty big playoff implications.

Rookies are boarding their charter to Texas in sleeveless plaid shirts with cutoff jeans, cowboy boots and hats.

The Chicago White Sox currently hold the final AL Wild Card spot, one game ahead of the Rangers and 1.5 games ahead of Toronto.

Chicago also holds the tiebreaker over Toronto, meaning that even though the Blue Jays are only 1.5 games back, they would have to finish one game better than the White Sox to jump them for the final playoff spot.
