Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider is in Philadelphia this week managing the American League All-Star team, and he just happened to share a pretty special moment with his nine-year-old son.
Schneider was taking questions from the media at a press conference when his son, Gunnar, raised his hand and asked what his favourite part about the 2025 season was.
Before answering, Schneider introduced his son to the room, then responded the way any proud dad would.
"Gunnar, there were a lot of memorable moments in 2025, and thankfully, you were there for a lot of them along with Mom and Grayson," Schneider said.
He went on to say that winning the American League pennant at the Rogers Centre ranked near the top of the list, while the memories of an unforgettable World Series, even though the Blue Jays came up short, were a close second.
Schneider then looked over at Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who happens to be managing the National League All-Star team, and joked that he had a few players in his clubhouse he needed to have a word with later.
Though Schneider's favourite moment turned out to be a personal one.
"It was the special bond the team had, and being able to share it with you guys. Love ya," Schneider said to his son.
The 46-year-old manager has been with the Blue Jays for parts of four seasons and received a two-year contract extension from Toronto's front office in March following the team's success in 2025.
Tuesday night's MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia marks the first time Schneider has managed the American League squad in his career. Traditionally, the honour goes to the managers of the defending AL and NL champions.
In this case, Schneider and Roberts.
Schneider will also get to share the experience with three Blue Jays players.
Dylan Cease will start the game on the mound for the American League, while fan favourite Ernie Clement will bat ninth and play second base. Blue Jays closer Louis Varland is also expected to pitch out of the bullpen at some point.
The MLB All-Star Game will air on Sportsnet on July 14 beginning at 8 p.m.
