Rivalries unequivocally make sports more fun.
And for New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler, the Toronto Blue Jays hate seems to be flowing through his blood.
The 25-year-old pitcher, who was slated to start against the Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon, opened up about the rivalry between the two teams, something he got to experience last season when Toronto knocked the Yankees out of the postseason.
"I know they don’t like us," Schlittler told MLB.com. "The fans don’t like us. The fans don’t like me. So it’ll be good to go out there and try to be locked in, try to give us a quality start and put us in a position to win games."
He was also asked why Jays fans don't like him, prompting the young pitcher to take a jab of his own.
"They’re easy to rage-bait, I think," he said.
"All the stuff last year in the playoffs or whatever it is, they’ve got a whole country behind them, so there’s a lot. They’re passionate about it."
"You respect them for that, but I don’t really like them. They ended our season last year. I hope everyone’s got that chip on their shoulder."
As word of Schlittler's jab spread, Jays fans promptly brought up that the Yankees' young star has a 0-2 record in two career starts against Toronto. That includes a playoff loss in Game 4 that ended New York's season.
However, Schlittler may argue that Jays fans bringing that up have successfully been rage-baited.
