Toronto gets soccer-themed condoms for FIFA World Cup 2026

While the world's best footballers will be busy trying to find the back of the net during the FIFA World Cup 2026, Toronto is making sure soccer fans don't forget about another kind of safety net when people start going absolutely feral.

With all the endorphins, dopamine, and testosterone expected to fly around the upcoming matches at BMO Field (temporarily renamed Toronto Stadium), it's safe to say the players on the pitch won't be the only ones trying to make a strong finish.

Which is exactly why Toronto Public Health (TPH) has already unveiled six limited-edition soccer-themed condoms ahead of the massive global sporting event.

If you notice, each colourful condom has a funny-yet-cringe title like "Block those shots!" "Ohhh, Canada" and "What a finish!" But you've got to respect a public health campaign that aggressively commits to the bit and refuses to leave any pun on the bench.

TPH says these novelty condoms, designed to "celebrate the energy of the games while promoting sexual health," are free of charge, while supplies last, at select clinics across the city:

  • 2340 Dundas St. W. in Toronto
  • 160 Borough Dr. in Scarborough
  • 662 Jane St. in York
  • 5110 Yonge St in North York

They'll also be distributed through community partner clinics and agencies across the city.

If history has taught us anything, it's that big tournaments tend to come with even bigger urges. Remember how the athlete's village ran out of condoms on Day 7 of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics this year?

Perhaps you're wondering why or how sports could turn otherwise normal people into crazed, horny creatures. Science actually has an answer.

Studies suggest that watching live sports can trigger real hormonal shifts in the body, particularly spikes in testosterone and cortisol, especially among younger fans. During high-stakes matches, people's bodies behave as if they're gearing up for competition themselves, with excitement (stress, too) ramped up in real time.

So, if all that hype has to go somewhere, hopefully it's with a consenting partner and a solid sense of judgment. And if you're not planning on sticking to headers when fielding balls during FIFA, just stay safe, Toronto.
