Mats Sundin reportedly interviewing for Toronto Maple Leafs job

The Toronto Maple Leafs have two job openings in their front office, and a very familiar face is reportedly in town interviewing for one of the roles.

According to Chris Johnston of The Athletic, longtime Maple Leafs captain and the organization's all-time leading goal scorer, Mats Sundin, is in Toronto interviewing for a potential front office position.

The Maple Leafs currently have two job openings in their front office: general manager and director of hockey operations.

MLSE president Keith Pelley has overseen hockey operations for the Maple Leafs since Brendan Shanahan was fired following the 2024-25 NHL campaign.

Toronto also recently fired general manager Brad Treliving with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Sundin, now 55, spent 13 years with Toronto, compiling 420 goals and 567 assists over 981 career games. He also spent four seasons with the Quebec Nordiques at the beginning of his career, and spent his final NHL season with the Vancouver Canucks.

He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012 and inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2013. Sundin's iconic No. 13 jersey was retired by the Leafs in 2016.

Sundin has never held a front office role with a professional hockey team but has reportedly remained around the Leafs organization in recent years, attending training camps and the NHL's Global Series games in Sweden.
