Videos can be deceiving, but Bo Bichette's early defensive showings with the New York Mets haven't been pretty.
Bichette, who signed a three-year, $126 million deal with the Mets in late January, is slowly ramping things up with his new club as they prepare for spring training.
While Bichette is certain to remain an elite batter with the Mets, Toronto Blue Jays fans took issue with his defensive shortcomings over the years. In fact, many hoped that if he remained in Toronto past the 2025 season, he would switch from his longtime role at shortstop to a less defensively demanding position at second base.
Rather than move to second base, however, the Mets have made the decision to give Bichette a look at third. And, while it's very early, it appears as though the two-time All Star is having a bit of a difficult time with the adjustment.

This is far from the only video that has surfaced of Bichette struggling with fielding drills, either.

"I've seen kids in t ball make this drill look better," one user chimed in on X.
Many others also chose to take some not-so-subtle digs at his defensive game.
"What month does he switch to full-time DH," another user joked.
To Bichette's credit, this is more than likely a new glove being broken in ahead of the 2026 season. Bobbles with new gloves are nothing out of the ordinary, but Bichette's fielding has been put under the microscope by fans on social media.
That said, Bichette's play on the defensive side of the ball is something worth monitoring early into the 2026 season. If he struggles, it may not be out of question for the Mets to move him to either short or second.
