Here's who is taking Springer's spot in Toronto Blue Jays lineup

The Toronto Blue Jays will not have George Springer in the lineup for Game 4 of the World Series against the LA Dodgers.

His status seemingly came down to the wire on Tuesday afternoon, as the Blue Jays' training staff was trying to determine if he was healthy enough to go. With about two hours before first pitch, Toronto released its starting lineup without Springer, who had left Game 3 of the World Series in the seventh inning with "right side discomfort."

This will be the first postseason game the Jays will play without Springer this October. Nathan Lukes will take over his leadoff spot in the lineup, while Bo Bichette will slide in as the team's designated hitter.

The Jays made several changes to the lineup to deal with Springer's absence.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will move up the lineup to bat second behind Lukes, with Bichette slotting in as the third man in the batting order. Right-fielder Addison Barger will then bat in clean-up.

Alejandro Kirk will also move up one spot to bat ahead of Daulton Varsho. Ernie Clement and Andrés Giménez will both move up one spot as well, with Isiah Kiner-Falefa slotting in as the number-nine hitter.

Losing Springer is a massive blow to Toronto's offence, as the 36-year-old has been lights out for the team this postseason. Through 14 games, Springer was batting .246 with nine RBIs and four home runs, one of which sent the Jays to the World Series in Game 7 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners.

It was a lack of offence that led to the Blue Jays' demise in Game 3, being unable to score a single run from innings eight through 18 before Freddie Freeman walked it off for the Dodgers to give L.A. a 2-1 series lead.

Even without Springer, Jays fans will be hoping another bat steps up to the challenge they try to stop the Dodgers from pushing their team to the brink of elimination.
