GG's Burgers

GG’s Burgers is the psychedelic beachside counter for smash burgers, hot dogs, and milkshakes.

No beach outing is complete without some greasy fast food. The bar is low at Woodbine Beach, considering the only option is the aging Pizza Pizza sitting by the washrooms.

ggs burgers torontoGG’s, which stands for Goodness Gracious, is your answer. Find it in the Ashbridges Bay plaza where Booster Juice and Toronto Beach Club are. This burger joint shares a space with the Tim Horton’s, Taco Bell-KFC hybrid-style.

ggs burgers torontoThe branding of GG’s is so on point, it makes me want to throw on some retro roller skates and hit the boardwalk with a Farrah Fawcett blowout. The burgers are pretty good too.

ggs burgers torontoChef Rob McKim says he ate through smash burgers across the city before settling on a patty mix of sirloin, chuck, brisket, and dry-aged beef fat, smashed on the flat top for that crispy edge before heading for a Martin’s Potato Roll buns.

ggs burgers torontoThere are standard hamburgers ($8) on sesame buns, cheeseburgers ($9), veggie cheeseburgers ($10), and patty melts ($9.50) on Texas toast with caramelized onions and cheddar.

ggs burgers torontoA key component of every burger is the GG sauce, which gives me a mustardy Mac sauce.

ggs burgers torontoThe Nashville Hot Chicken ($10) is a drippy hot oil burger with housemade ranch, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce.

ggs burgers torontoNaturally everything here is built for takeout, so if you plan on heading back to the sand with a feast for the crew, hit one of their combos like the 4 Beach Buns ($48).

ggs burgers torontoFat onion rings are $4.50 and come with chipotle mayo. GG’s leans in to the retro vibe with vegan soft serve ($6) of vegan mango and vanilla swirl, and even has daily pie options available for $5 a slice.

ggs burgers torontoSoon to be available are throwback foods reserved for childhood outings like funnel cakes and a Passion Flakie take.

ggs burgers torontoThere are options to add fries and pop to everything. You can also skip the pop and grab some “dad beers” like Miller High Life or Molson OV. Canned cocktails are $10 each for options like Long Island Ice Teas.

Finding a good spot to lay up at Woodbine Beach is always a tough decision but in close vicinity to GG’s is probably a good idea.
