Stretch of popular Toronto street will shut down this month for huge music festival
Looking for another reason to party on one of the city's most happening streets? You're in luck: Sound on Geary returns to Toronto on Geary Avenue later this month, turning more than a kilometre of the street into a giant outdoor music festival.
This music festival features eight individual stages with programming presented by several of the city's popular music and nightlife hotspots. Attendees will experience a packed street with live artists and food options that truly represent Geary Avenue, one of Toronto's "most interesting streets."
As a music-forward attraction, music fans are in for a real treat all night long; expect an eclectic mix of sounds, from pop and hip-hop to punk and experimental music.
One of the night's highlights will be the return of the Blood Brothers Battle of the Bands, taking place at the Sound Garage, a festival tradition in which six local bands will go head-to-head for a $500 cash prize and studio recording time.
Beyond being an open-air attraction with plenty of food and music, the best part is that it's completely free. And if social media reactions are any indication, Toronto residents are excited to get the party started on Sept. 19, when the street will turn into pedestrian-only territory.
The comment section of the official announcement on Instagram is flooding with excitement, with people saying things like "Something major is happening" and "Geary is the best!" to add to the hype.
Sound on Geary is happening on Sept. 19 from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m., with the festival footprint spanning roughly 1.2 kilometres of the street, stretching from Ossington to Primrose.
