Jeff Goldblum headlining huge 10-day music festival in Toronto this week

There's a huge, city-wide music festival coming to Toronto this week, and it's being headlined by Jeff Goldblum. Yes... that Jeff Goldblum.

Back for its 38th year of flooding the city with a deluge of free and ticketed live music performances, the Toronto Jazz Festival kicks off this Friday, June 20.

A long-adored staple of Toronto's summer festival calendar, Jazz Fest welcomes dozens of artists from around the world (with plenty of local acts in the mix) for 10 days straight of live music performances taking place everywhere from city sidewalks to some of the most prestigious venues in town.

Technically, sure, it's a jazz-centric festival, but you'll be able to hear much more than that over the festival's run. Rock, Flamenco, Hip Hop and Soul will also make plenty of appearances, among groovy jazz subtypes that could convert even the genre's biggest haters.

Perhaps unexpected, though certainly not unwelcome, one of the top-billed performers at this year's festival is none other than Oscar-nominated actor Jeff Goldblum, who, if you weren't already aware, does indeed moonlight as a jazz musician.

As if the world needed any more reason to adore him.

The Jurassic Park actor is set to headline a show at Massey Hall on June 28, with his band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, playing a charming lineup of songbook standards for ticket prices around $100. You'll just have to see for yourself whether any songs from his latest box office smash, Wicked, make it on the setlist.

Jeff isn't the only exciting headliner at the festival this year, though. 

Iconic American rhythm and blues and gospel singer Mavis Staples tops the bill with a ticketed show on June 23 at the Elgin Theatre, while Toronto's own Broken Social Scene is taking on History on June 21.

If you're in the market for live performances that you don't actually have to pay for, head to Village of Yorkville Park (115 Cumberland St.), where the OLG Village Stage will be bustling with an impressive lineup of local and international talent every single day.

Various sidewalks in the Yorkville area will also be transformed into free performance venues in their own right, too, for more relaxed sets between marquee shows.
