Aesthetic Toronto alley to host the city's newest weekend market

The people behind one of Toronto's most popular independent vendor markets are making their mark on a new area of the city, and the scenery could not be better.

Toronto is a city riddled with vendor markets, which makes sense because it's, thankfully, also a city riddled with creatives. Take a stroll in any given neighbourhood on any given Saturday, Sunday or holiday, and you're likely to stumble upon at least a handful of pop-up markets, brimming with curated vintage racks, handmade jewellery, greeting cards and whatever other weird and wonderful stuff the city's makers can create.

Among the most enduring of them has long been the Kensington Flea, which has run in Kensington Market every weekend from May to October since 2017.

Now, the team behind Kensington Flea has set their sights on a new spot for local artisans to sell their wares. Emphasis on the new.

Mirvish Village's newly completed and awe-inspiring Honest Ed's Alley, which has drawn comparisons to the likes of Hong Kong and Tokyo thanks to its smattering of lit-up signs, is slated to be the site of the city's newest independent vendor market, The Alley Bazaar.

Taking ample inspiration from the Kensington Flea, the market will give shoppers the chance to score art, vintage finds, jewellery, decor and collectibles from a curated collection of artists, makers and vendors on the site of the city's famed, now-defunct Honest Ed's.

Doing it all under the glow of the alley's numerous colourful, playful signs doesn't hurt, either.

Unfortunately, if all this talk of artisanal teas and hand-crocheted purses is getting you antsy to drop some dough at The Alley Bazaar, you're in for a bit of a wait. After holding its inaugural event on Oct. 17, it's going into hibernation until May 2027, when it's due to return every weekend.

So, while you can't expect to pick up some last-minute Halloween treats or holiday gifts at The Alley Bazaar this year, you can look forward to shopping 'til you drop from its varied, vibrant stalls once warmer days return to Toronto.

On the bright side, there is plenty of shopping from independent businesses you can do in Honest Ed's Alley year-round, with newly opened stores like Bazaar Gift Shop, SoBR Market and Solyea Tea all operating permanent locations along the alley.
