Construction is currently underway for a massive new Walmart Supercentre that's set to open in an expanded Ontario mall outside of Toronto.
Spanning approximately 140,000 square feet, the upcoming Walmart Supercentre at Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton is expected to open sometime in early 2027. The big-box store will feature a full grocery department with fresh produce, a bakery, and a deli, along with home, electronics, and apparel sections, as well as a Walmart Pharmacy.
The mall, which changed ownership to Primaris Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) back in June, is undergoing a redevelopment, which began with the demolition of the former Active Green + Ross Tire Centre on Monday, located just beside the previous Sears store, which will serve as the home for the Walmart Supercentre.
"As the City of Hamilton continues to grow, this new Supercentre will help us to better serve our local customers through a convenient store location and expanded ability to serve the area through our delivery service," said Shawn Fujiki, Senior Director, Real Estate, Walmart Canada.
Shoppers will soon see Walmart's blue-white-and-yellow signage pop up at the now-vacant Sears space, located at the north end of the shopping centre and visible from Upper Wentworth Street.
Back in January, Walmart Canada announced a $6.5 billion investment over the next five years to expand its store and supply chain footprint. As part of the investment, the big-box retailer opened new stores in Port Credit and Oakville, as well as its Ambient Distribution Centre in Vaughan.
Over the next two years, the chain plans to open four new stores in Canada, including two in Alberta, one in Quebec, and one in Hamilton. Walmart Canada currently operates 150 stores throughout the province, including six in Hamilton.
