This Week in Fashion: HBC gets a new president, Saks coming to Toronto?, Show Your Roots, Gotstyle sale

This Week in Fashion rounds up the week's style news, store openings and closings, pop-up shops, sales and upcoming fashion and design events in Toronto. Find it here every Wednesday morning.

NEWS

Last week, The Hudson's Bay Company underwent a bit of a kerfuffle when Bonnie Brooks, their star president, was promoted to vice-chairman. The past five years saw a major upgrade thanks to Brooks - she was responsible for replacing underperforming brands with big names like Burberry and Topshop. Though she'll still be around to revolutionize the company, Lord & Taylor's Liz Rodbell will take over the president role and run all day-to-day operations.

According to Women's Wear Daily, The Hudson's Bay Company may be buying Canadian rights to New York's Saks Fifth Avenue. Whether this means some Hudson's Bay locations will be converted to Saks stores or the latter will occupy space within the former, only time can tell how (or if) the two retail giants will merge.

EVENTS/PARTIES

1 LOVE T.O. is teaming up with Roots Canada for a second seemingly-annual collaboration: the release of a limited edition t-shirt under the "Show Your Roots" campaign. This Saturday (June 29 - just in time for Canada day!) from noon until 6 pm, a one-day pop-up shop in Yorkville (100 Bloor St. W) will present the Toronto pride tee and offer an additional 25% off regular priced Roots items for those who purchase it.

Spend your Saturday (June 29) at the Wychwood Barns' (601 Christie St) monthly Art Market. From 9 am until 2 pm, over 25 vendors will be set up for your leisurely perusal. If you can't make it, don't fret! There are four more instalments (July 27, August 24, September 28, and October 19) to pick up unique finds including jewellery, paintings, and clothing.

A Party & Apparel by 818 Events is launching this Sunday (June 30) as a way for Toronto-based designers and boutiques to get their names out there. The Store on Queen, Wanderlust, and Stella & Dot are just some of the many vendors on the roster. The first monthly pop-up of the summer will run from 2 pm until 7 pm at the Crawford (718 College St. W) - free admission, sweet tunes, good company, and shopping all in one place makes it easy to support local!

SALES

Until the end of the month (June 30), both Gotstyle locations (62 Bathurst St and 21 Trinity St) are giving dapper dudes a chance to spruce up their wardrobes with a 25% sale. Buy any sport coat, shirt, or non-denim pant and get the percentage off your entire outfit.

Jerome's (2480 Yonge St) is on sale until July 7 with select styles up to 40% off. The Yonge & Eglinton boutique boasts quality menswear with a fashionable twist, carrying brands such as Ted Baker, Oscar of Sweden, and Canali.
