A Toronto bar is facing steep repercussions from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) as new evidence into the fatal fall of a customer emerges.
St. Louis Bar & Grill's location at 11 St. Clair W. is facing a proposed 60-day suspension of its liquor licence after an investigation into an April 2026 death at the property reveals the customer was intoxicated at the time.
The death occurred on April 11, 2026, when a patron at the bar fell down a flight of stairs leading to the bathroom, later succumbing to the injuries they sustained.
According to AGCO, the latest investigation into the death reveals the patron had been served 14 23-ounce beers over the course of five-and-a-half hours, or the equivalent of 21 standard drinks.
AGCO's investigation revealed that St. Louis Bar & Grill continued to serve the patron alcohol after they were clearly intoxicated, in violation of the Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019 (LLCA), which prohibits "Selling, supplying, or permitting liquor to be sold or supplied to a person who was or appeared to be intoxicated," and "Permitting intoxication to occur on the licensed premises or in adjacent areas under the exclusive control of the licensee."
The bar has been served a notice for the proposed 60-day licence suspension and will have 15 days to appeal the decision.
Whether the suspension passes or not, it'll be a long road forward for St. Louis Bar & Grill, as the shadow of a lost life looms large over the bar.
