Toronto hosted a scrumptious competition this past weekend to crown the best croissants and baguettes in the Greater Toronto Area. The ballots have been counted, and Toronto's top croissant connoisseur has been crowned.
Tangssant Viennoiserie swept the Grand Prix at the annual Best Croissant and Best Baguette competition for its flaky, melt-in-your-mouth viennoiserie.
The winning team took to Instagram to share the news, and customers were thrilled to learn that professional taste testers validated their favourite pastries.
The competition, brought to Toronto by U.S.-based French news publication French Morning, took place on Oct. 4 at Ricarda's and was a two-part event. First, 500 taste testers walked around, savouring each participating café's best offerings before voting for the Best Croissant, with the winning bakery taking home the Public's Prize.
The second leg of the competition is where things get a bit more serious — I mean, as serious as things can get at a pastry competition.
A panel of judges, including food critics and chefs, blind-tasted each delicacy before voting for the best croissants in Toronto.
Tangssant Viennoiserie, which serves coffee, pastries, and of course, croissants, was one of 12 finalists and ultimately took home the title — and, of course, some serious bragging rights.
Now you can try your own award-winning croissant at the boulangerie at 193 Church St, because there's no better excuse to treat yourself to a buttery, flaky pastry than when it's officially been crowned one of the city's best.
