It's hard to stand out among the competition in Toronto's ultra-saturated burger scene, and when the title of the city's best burger is an accolade handed out to a select few, you can always just set yourself apart from the pack by gunning for the title of the city's weirdest.
The Fancy Induced Burger (TFIB) has easily put itself in the running for the title of Toronto's most bizarre burger joint. A concept seemingly devised and executed by AI — or at least one that relies on the tool heavily — resulting in near-nonsensical branding, the team behind the viral and equally confounding oozing burger sensation hasn't shied away from its reliance on artificial intelligence.
In fact, the burger chain (which boasts locations across Canada) is kind of leaning into the AI reputation, most recently unveiling a perplexing AI-designed mascot — a singing and dancing syringe full of molten cheese named "Mr I." — accompanied by a theme song.
For those not quite up to speed on the lore of TFIB, the Bathurst and Bloor-based burger joint (soon to relocate for new digs) is known for its burgers served with syringes of liquified cheese goop that can be injected (which the chain confusingly refers to as "induced") into the sandwich to create an oozing void of molten yellow-orange matter.
The bizarre concept, which many social media users have chalked up to the owners letting AI run wild with everything from the business name to its menu items, has become a viral talking point, and getting messy, cheese-covered hands is becoming almost something of a rite of passage for adventurous food tourists.
As for the verdict on the new mascot and theme song, a few commenters seemed to like the dancing syringe, while another replied to the video, summing it all up by saying the "ad looks like s**t (AI)."
The Fancy Induced Burger confirms to blogTO that "AI-assisted tools were used to animate Mr. I.," adding that "The mascot, concept, personality, music, and creative direction are original to TFIB."
When pressed on its decision to employ AI instead of paying human designers, TFIB states, "We chose AI because it allows an independent Canadian brand like ours to experiment, innovate, and bring ideas to customers quickly while managing costs."
The Fancy Induced Burger currently has four locations in Ontario, two in Calgary, and one in B.C.
