3 Toronto BBQ pop-ups you need to visit before the summer ends

Toronto summers and steaming, saucy barbecue go together like milk and cookies, and the city's got a particularly smokin' lineup of businesses serving the stuff this summer.

Whether you're beholden to the classic brisket and ribs or get your charcoal-kissed kicks through international flavours, Toronto's home to barbecue pop-ups that'll hit the spot while getting your fingers satisfyingly sticky.

While you can always head to a barbecue restaurant to get your fill of slow-smoked meats, in the words of Smoking Section BBQ's Lucas Walker, "the best barbecue in the world comes from a pop-up," and the same is true for Toronto.

In a city enshrouded in winter for what feels like nine months of the year, to dig into a shared platter under the sun is a rare treat, and with the remaining days of summer 2026 numbered, it's time to load up on the antacids and make the most of it.

Here are three barbecue pop-ups in Toronto that you need to check out before time runs out.

Cascabel BBQ

Holding court on Paradise Grapevine's Geary patio until the end of September, this BBQ business specializes in Mexican-style charcoal-grilled goodies courtesy of chefs Matt Bod and Mariel González.

If it all seems a bit familiar, you'll likely remember them from their notable stint at Reposado in the summer of 2025.

While there's no brisket and coleslaw to be spoken of here, slow-smoked beef cheek, butterflied black tiger shrimp and smoked chorizo with fire-kissed pineapple will more than sate your yearning for all things smoky and charred.

Platters are the Friday special at Smoking Section BBQ.

Smoking Section BBQ

When it comes to the true Texas-style stuff, this pop-up at Etobicoke's Great Lakes Brewery does all the staples faithfully and with a touch that's virtually unparalleled in the city.

Daily specials, including thick, juicy burgers dripping in house-made mustard on Thursdays, platters overflowing with brisket, ribs, smoked turkey and potato salad on Fridays and foot-long, snappy sausages on Sundays, have made this pop-up, helmed by pitmaster Lucas Walker, an instant institution.

King Smoke House BBQ

A serious upgrade for commuting east-enders, this pop-up is sending smoky aromas floating down to the platforms at Greenwood Station.

Float along the scent stream à la Pepe Le Pew, and you'll land on the patio of the legendary Linsmore Tavern, where pitmaster Trevor David grills up a selection of saucy delights.

Peri Peri chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, smoked chicken wings or quarters, and cornbread are all on the menu here every Thursday through Sunday from 6 p.m. until the wee hours.
